"A videographer films Amsterdam" is a contemporary homage to Ed van der Elsken's 1982 film "A Photographer Films Amsterdam," in which twelve minutes of Amsterdam street life were captured from a moving car, accompanied by Van der Elsken's street commentary. This project follows his original route—from Dam Square to the Albert Cuyp Market and beyond—using a partly self-built steadycam and partly a Ronin steadycam. Additionally, a self-built electric delivery moped was used to travel through the streets. Shown alongside Van der Elsken's original, the film reveals the city's transformation over half a century.
Social media clips of "A videographer films Amsterdam" garnened up to 500k views online on platforms such as Instagram and Tiktok.
I'm in the process of producing "A Filmmaker Films Amsterdam," an installation captured on 16mm film. This rendition of the project is financed by Het Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst.
